This is an absolute must visit on your trip to Fisherman’s Wharf
These sandwiches were the best we had ever eaten - you will not be disappointed!!
The store is very unassuming but it will be the best lunch you will have in the area - guaranteed!
Awesome hole in the wall, super super fresh and filling. If you’re in fisherman area, treat yourself here rather than those copy paste seafood places that are overcrowded on the walk.
Great sandwiches! Love the soft bread options. My partner and I walk past three other sandwich shops just to come here. It’s the best!
The place is very good, as it has very good sandwiches and friendly service. We had the sourdough and the out, nothing to criticize. The sandwiches where finished fast and the service was quick and friendly. When you are hungry, just go to Freddie's, it's the best of the best, even though it's really inconspicuous. 10/10 would definitely recommend.
Decades of Deliciousness!
I've been a customer at Freddie's Sandwiches for over twenty-five years and live just two blocks away. When I wanted to update my review, I realized that the comments from my 2016 review still hold true! So, I won't repeat that they still make the best sandwiches for the price, but I will share that I've added their Club Sandwich to my list of favorites.
Freddie's Club Sandwich comes with ham, turkey, and bacon, and you can add any combination of mustard, mayo, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onions. The bread makes a huge difference, and if I may, I'd like to give you a hint: Go with hard sourdough bread, ask for it to be gutted out and toasted, and go light with the mayo. You will enjoy it.
Their coffee is also pretty good. It's drip coffee only, but the owner is a coffee enthusiast like myself and always has fresh, hot coffee available upfront. If coffee isn't your thing, they have plenty of non-alcoholic options to choose from. Their deli salads are made daily and can be a great companion to your sandwich.
The store is small, and there is no room to sit inside, but they have three or four small tables and chairs available outside if you and a companion or two want to have your sandwiches there.
The owner seems very serious at first, but after chatting and exchanging pleasantries, you'll find that he's actually a very nice and helpful person, as are the rest of his staff. They sometimes fill in behind the counter if he's not around.
Very very good sandwiches - definitely check it out if you haven’t before. Fresh bread, good fillings, quick and delicious
Old deli style counter with fantastic sandwiches. We got the Italian combo and the club and both were amazing. Super cheap prices comparatively to other spots in the area, or really the SF area as a whole. Don’t pass this little spot up on your trip!
Veggie sandwich and a diet Coke $13. The sandwich was great. Wait time after placing order was 5 minutes. Service was perfunctory. Seating was available but uncomfortable. I'll do takeout next time.
Phenomenal service in an old school corner deli shop. The Italian sandwich was made to order and delicious. The line moved quickly, so don’t be put off by that.
I've been going there for over 40 years. The best thing to order is the Italian combo sandwich, the #1. Always get it on the soft sourdough. You'll thank me later.
Oh my gosh this place is a gem! I found it my chance after a long day of museum hopping! The sandwich ingredients were SO FRESH! I loved the bread and the cheese was yummy. I am going to keep coming back and let everyone I know about this place 👏🏻👏🏻
Amazing sandwiches! So good I forgot to take a photo! They were absolutely huge and service was super quick - very freshly made too! We shared a large Italian combo, with everything, on soft sourdough. Super tasty.
Just be careful if you’re a tourist and heading up this way, we encountered some not-so-friendly locals who made their presence known. We took our sandwiches and walked back towards the front, which was barely a walk at all. Worth the short walk to find some decent food and not be charged crazy tourist prices!
10/10 would return & recommend

Came here all the time with my dad when I was a kid and we lived on Leavenworth. Haven't been here since I was in elementary school and it's just as good as I remember it.
Italian combo on dutch crunch with everything was incredible. The large was enough for two meals but I walked here from my office on Market street and was real hungry.
Owner was super nice and it was a perfect weather to eat outside. Will come here again with my kids to show them a SF staple.
Nothing was wrong with the food or order. The roast beef wasn't the brand I normal eat. Definitely a great little deli.
The best sandwich I’ve had in a while. And with good quality ingredients. Got the pastrami sandwich. I ordered online so I had limited interaction with the gentleman at the counter but even when I walked in, he greeted me kindly. Would definitely recommend
Stop your search because you found it. Nothing is better than a good sandwich. It turns out this is a good *nay* great sandwich.
Go here.
I have been going to Freddie Sandwiches for about 20 years now. There sandwiches are the best for the price. Even though the price is not low but I would not complain about it when everything is getting so bad and expensive in the city.
The owner may have changed but the sandwich was awesome and made just the way it was 30-20-20 years ago. Italian combo-get the large, enough for 2 meals or 2 people- on sourdough with the works! Prices have gone up but hey, everyone has raised their prices everywhere.
Best sandwiches within a 1/2 mile in all directions. Great meats! Very fine value.
A great find in San Francisco. The sandwiches are superb. We had the Italian combo and Buffalo roast chicken on soft sourdough bread. Friendly staff too. It's the real deal here 😄
I had a Pastrami and Swiss on Rye. The sandwich was amazing. I wish I could bring this goodness back with me when I leave. The price and food where the best so far on my trip.
Truly authentic sourdough sandwiches. The place gives you that old school feel that brings you back to your childhood. We need more places like this. Sandwich was 5⭐️.
Delicious! Got the double meet extra large/long sandwich. Would totally go back! Looking forward to trying their San Jose location.
Best sandwiches ever! I get this everyone now and again whenever I go back to the city because no one can make their sandwiches like Freddy’s. I actually found out about this place from my mom’s recommendation since she would get their sandwiches when she was younger and boy this place does not disappoint! Great prices too.
One of the best pastrami sandwiches I’ve tried in SF
Very nice italian style sandwiches
Quite large according to European standard but really good
Worth to go !
Excellent example of an Italian deli. Great sandwiches and macaroni salad. Guy behind the counter is thoughtful and knows his job 👌👌
Small sandwich shop with some great subs! I recommend the Italian Combo. The small would be enough for many people I was barely able to get the large down.
I am VIP chauffeur in San Francisco and this morning when I was driving by this sandwich shop something in my gut told me to turn around and give it a try and I am happy I did. I was greeted by a very friendly restaurant owner and purchased an Italian combo, which was absolutely delicious!
As I was waiting for my sandwich, a gentleman that was inside looked at me and said, what a great find, and he was right! I highly recommend stopping by Freddie's and order a delicious sandwich! You won’t be disappointed!
Cheers
The owner is nice man who is very professional and kind. His staff seems to be very attentive and task oriented. The place is small but kept clean. They have a bathroom for customers in the back. The Hot sandwiches I had today were delicious and well packed. The price for sandwiches and drinks are totally fair. Would I come back here? Absolutely.
No frills, old school sandwich spot, fast, easy and tasty. Cannot go wrong with the Italian combo. Soft sourdough is a personal favourite.
Take out lunch if you’re in the area it’s a treat! Friendly staff, no line on a later afternoon Saturday. All the sides you could want, and they give great portion sizes! I got the buffalo chicken sandwich on sourdough. Mild spice with juicy chicken.
Great sandwiches, fairly priced.
Out of this world. The pastrami sandwich was so so amazing
Incredible sandwiches, nicest people!
Got a great large Pastrami sandwich here. Handmade, immensely fresh toppings, and the best meat I've had so far. Absolute recommend!
I have eaten at Freddie’s since the early 80’s, the best sandwiches in the city. Maybe by 2026 I can make it there for the 100th anniversary. Live in Arizona now…
Best sandwiches I’ve had in SF
I come here for lunch pretty much every day haha. Excellent sandwiches for a reasonable price.
Very delicous sandwiches, diffrent breads, chesses, sauces and fillings. The lettuce wrapped snadwiches are also very delicious. Great price also.
Simplement les meilleurs sandwich de SF. Loin de l'attrape touriste. Le small suffira au plus grand nombre
Had a very pleasant experience. The sandwich was very tasty. Wish we had a little deli like this back home. Anytime you receive your sandwich wrapped in butcher paper. You know it's going to be good.
Quaint little neighborhood sandwich shop. The bread and the sandwich was really good
great stop to get a sub at quick and easy you can even call ahead and just stop by and pick your order if you in a rush
This is a true GEM! Great food, all fresh! Highly recommended!
Delicious sandwiches and very friendly!
Wish we found this gem of a sandwich shop on day 1 of our trip. Chicken salad on sourdough was the best sandwich I’ve had in a VERY long time. Very reasonably priced.
Delicious sandwiches and friendly staff.
Great sandwiches and great patience when ordering - in short, great.value…
the best sandwich. OG stuff don’t go anywhere else. literally perfect in every way. drinks and crisp selection are unreal.
I love this place. It's exactly what you would imagine for a local authentic neighborhood favorite sandwich shop. And you know it's good food when the fire and police department both show up at the same time for lunch.
Best sandwiches In Brentwood
I wish I had a picture of the delicious sandwich I had on sourdough bread. If I lived in this neighborhood, this would be my go-to!
I got a pretty good sandwich here. About $16 for a large with tip. The wait was pretty long during lunch hour after ordering, especially with the online orders they have. Overall, it was a good Deli. Big menu with lots of different options, chips, drinks, candy as well.
The best tasting sandwiches in San Francisco! We were walking by to the Pier 39 and there is this really great sandwich shop. Ordered fantastic sandwiches for us and our kids. Extreme good quality of bread and everything else. And the price is right!
